PromptStrip
Support
Everything you need to get reading and recording.
Get started in three steps
- Add a script. Open the library, press + and paste your text, or import a
.txtor.mdfile. - Press Start Prompting (⌘↩). The strip springs out of the notch and counts down 3‑2‑1.
- Record in any app. Use ⌃⌥↩ to pause and ⌃⌥↑ / ⌃⌥↓ to change speed, without leaving your camera app.
Tips
- Move the strip by dragging it. Drop it near the top centre to snap it back under the camera, or choose Reset to Camera from the menu-bar icon.
- Scrub by scrolling with the mouse wheel or trackpad over the strip. Reading pauses so you keep your place.
- Hide it fast with ⌃⌥H, for example before you start a screen recording.
- Give a script its own look with the Style button in the editor toolbar. Turn on Custom for any field you want to change.
Keyboard shortcuts
- ⌃⌥↩ Play / Pause Start reading or hold your place.
- ⌃⌥↑ Faster Nudge the speed up mid-take.
- ⌃⌥↓ Slower Breathe. Slow it down.
- ⌃⌥← Rewind Jump back a few lines and retake.
- ⌃⌥→ Skip Ahead Skip past a section.
- ⌃⌥H Show / Hide Strip Tuck it away before screen recording.
Frequently asked questions
Which Macs does PromptStrip support?
PromptStrip runs on Macs with macOS 26 or later. It works on any display. On MacBooks with a notch, the strip merges with the notch. On other screens, it sits just under the menu bar, still close to the camera.
Will the strip show up in my screen recording?
If you record the whole screen, yes. That's how macOS screen capture works. Press ⌃⌥H to hide the strip while you capture, then press it again to bring it back. Camera-only recordings never include it.
Does it need Accessibility or any other permissions?
No. The global shortcuts work without Accessibility access, and PromptStrip runs in the App Sandbox. It can read only the files you choose to import.
Can I move the strip somewhere else?
Yes. Drag it anywhere on screen. Drop it near the top centre and it snaps back under the camera. "Reset to Camera" in the menu bar does the same.
Can different scripts look different?
Yes. Each script can override the mode, font size, weight and design, text and highlight colours, speed, background and opacity. Anything you leave alone follows your global settings.
Does PromptStrip follow my voice?
Not yet. It scrolls at a steady speed that you control with shortcuts, the on-strip controls or the scroll wheel. That way it never jumps when you pause or ad-lib.
